Every sip of ORS tastes the same — because it is a solution, a uniform mixture where one substance vanishes evenly into another. This chapter names the players (solute, solvent, solution), asks how much will dissolve (saturation and solubility) and how temperature changes the answer — differently for solids and for gases. Then it tackles the everyday mystery of floating and sinking by introducing density (mass ÷ volume): how to measure it, why it falls when things heat up, and the curious reason ice floats on water.
