Pressure All Around You
Spot the Pressure Broad straps and sharp knives, water gushing from a high tank, a sucker stuck to a tile, a roof in a storm, the breeze off the sea, a swirling cyclone on the news — every one is pressure at work. The single formula P = F ÷ A, plus the rule air flows high → low, explains the whole list.

- P = F ÷ A. Same force, smaller area → bigger pressure.
- Liquid pressure depends on HEIGHT, not amount, and pushes in all directions. Taller tank → stronger tap.
- Air has weight and presses in all directions (atmospheric pressure). We aren’t crushed because inside pressure balances it.
- Wind = air from HIGH to LOW pressure. Bigger gap → faster wind.
- Fast wind → low pressure (roofs lift; balloons pull together). Keep windows open in a storm.
- Lightning: rubbing in clouds separates charge → air breaks down → flash (lightning) + bang (thunder).

- “The eye of a cyclone has the fiercest winds.” — False: the eye is calm; the strongest winds are in the ring around the eye.
